Dr. Islam has been practicing medicine for over 35 years. He completed his M.P.H., Dr. P.H., and Psychiatry residency from UAB, focusing on mental health research. He worked as a clinical and research faculty at the UAB Department of Psychiatry and School of Public Health. Dr. Islam is board-certified from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He specialized in Electro Convulsive Therapy (ECT) and served as ECT Director at UAB.
Dr. Islam is specialized in treating substance use disorders using Buprenorphine (Suboxone). He also served as Staff Psychiatrist at the VA Medical Center. His special interest is to provide affordable and convenient psychiatric treatment via Telepsychiatry.
He was the recipient of multiple clinical and academic excellence awards during his career including the Clinical Executive Leadership Award from the Veterans Health Administration. His many interests include psychotherapy, ADHD treatment, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, psychotic disorders, and substance abuse disorders.
